Kym’s Review: B-sides and Rarities – K. Webster

Kym .jpg

BSides.jpgK. Webster is one of these savants who can capture the nuisance, strength and fragility of the human condition. Who makes writing these multidimensional characters and stories look effortless. She doesn’t just take you out of your comfort zone, she sets fire to it and dances in the ashes with gleeful abandon. And as much as I need the rawness of the dark and twisty I also need these characters to get their Happily Ever After. The Happily Ever After is the slow comedown from my reading high, it’s the payoff for all the pain. So what happens when this addict hears that one of her favourite authors is releasing an anthology of incomplete stories? An entire book of words that never finish with “The End” Well she goes a little bit insane.

Every short story in B-sides and Rarities shows us another facet of K. Webster talent. Love, hate, depression, hope, madness, passion and revenge are all examined. Some vary from a tease of two pages, some to nearer forty. Each is a fantastic read, some are just a little taste of an interesting character, some are the beginnings of stories that will keep me up at night wondering what the hell happens next. Because that can’t be it, it just can’t be. B-sides and Rarities has a mix of characters and genres to satisfy every reader. I devoured this book, turning each page with an intense trepidation because what if that was all I was getting, what if that was where she leaves us hanging. For each new high there is a new low. If extreme reading was a sport then this book is the Olympics because every emotion was heightened with the uncertainty that this may be it for my time with these characters. Every characters and setting all fighting for space in my head and I’m sitting here telling myself that there has to be more because this glorious reading adventure can’t be over. So having finished B-sides and Rarities reminding myself that I knew the deal going in, I knew that I wouldn’t get my Happily Ever Afters, even though I would get my high. Knowing I’d probably go mad from all this endingless awesomeness. I thought I had prepared myself for the rush and then the fall. But you can’t prepare for K. Webster’s crazy genius and you know what? I’m not even going to try, I’m going with the crazy. Leave your sanity at the door and just let the crazy have it’s way with you, you’ll thank me later.

My B-sides and Rarities Playlist:

Beekeeper by Keaton Henson.

The Answer by Blue October.

Schizophrenia by Blue October.

Sour Times by Civil Wars.

This is Your Wilderness by Jozef Van Wissem.

Sqürl Whirlpool by Sea Wolf.

It’s All by Jono McCleery.

Peeking into the head of a writer is like opening the door to a room filled with lunatics, villains, and demons—all running amuck while screaming at exactly the same time. In other words, complete chaos. Most days, authors are able to quieten those voices in their head and focus on the ones who yell the loudest. They are able to clutch onto the hand of the most important character and pull them from the fray.

But what happens when they’re all screaming much too loudly? What happens when they all speak at once and they pull the author into the depths of their fiery hell?

Writer’s block, that’s what.

Have you ever wondered why an author jumped into a different story while in the middle of a series you’ve been following or why they are taking too long to release or why they’ve gone genre hopping?

Well, I’ll tell you why.
They’re in hell.
The hell of their own mind.

In most cases, the writer will open new documents and tell portions of these character’s stories if only to shut them up for a while. Other times, it’s because the author simply needs to feel useful or productive when their work in progress has come to a screeching halt. Regardless of the reason, you can ask just about any writer in this world and they’ll show you right to a folder on their desktop or a notebook of many scribblings of unfinished stories.

This is our therapy. Our coping mechanism.

And most days, as a reader, you’re only welcome into the world of our stunning, finished works of art we’ve spent months and months agonizing over. The beautiful final product of our blood, sweet, tears, and insanity. Nobody ever lets you in to see what wasn’t ever meant for the world. The imperfect. The incomplete. The utter madness.

Nobody would ever share that with the world, right?
Well, they’d have to be a little crazy.
They’d have to be me.

***

WARNING: This is a collection of incomplete stories. Some end abruptly, almost as quickly as they started. Others let you sink your teeth in just a bit before pushing you away. A couple will leave you pulling at your hair and cursing for more. In this collection, it’s all about beginnings…there are no climaxes or epic endings. It’s madness I tell you! Enter at your own risk.

Meet the Author
Hi, I’m Tommy Crown
I was born in Texas at the height of the Viet Nam war and the hippie movement. We moved around a lot because my father was in the oil business. Mainly in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South America.
My teen years were spent in California, where I was the poster boy for bad boys. I managed to get suspended from Beverly Hills High and wound up graduating from Hollywood High where the tolerance for bad boys was the norm.
I played drums in a band called, ‘Brand X’. I surfed. I smoked, drank, and chased women. I was pretty good at it.
The chasing women part anyway.
I did my time at Cerritos College where they handed me my first college degree. I now have a couple more. One from UNLV in marketing and another from NYU in journalism.
Next, I spent a few years in law enforcement (LAPD), before flipping to the dark side where I worked in a casino , (Caesars’ Palace) thanks to my father’s connections to the owner, the late Jay Sarno. It was there I found my niche.
I advanced over the years, became a casino boss and traveled the world opening casinos for a group of very wealthy Americans.
I opened the Royale in Port au Prince Haiti, the Flamingo in Madrid, and believe it or not, Rick’s in Casablanca.
During that time, I picked up the nickname, ‘Player’ and for some reason, it stuck.
A few years ago, I decided I wanted to be a writer. More specifically, a writer of erotica. I figured I might as well put my dirty mind to work. I’ve sold stories to Hustler, Penthouse, and Bitch magazines thru the years and their dough was good. Better than most to be honest. The perks weren’t bad, either. I’ll let you think about that.
I thought my years in law enforcement and my time spent as a player in the casino world would serve me well as a writer. It has.
I tend to write things that men can read while getting a haircut, or women under hair dryers, or factory workers on break. Don’t kid yourself though. Doctors and Lawyers read my work, too.
I currently work weekends for VIP Services, a private security firm I co-own that provides protection for entertainers and celebrities. The doughs good and the perks are incredible. Yeah, big black limo, men in dark suits and darker sunglasses moving the crowds out of the way for stars. Cool job.
You can find my free stories on BooksieSilk, Velvet9, Stories Space, literotica, watt pad and my personal blog, http://tommycrownjewels.blogspot.co.uk/?m=1
My inspiration comes from anything; a sight, a sound, a smell, a neatly turned phrase I hear on TV or radio, kids playing in a park, or simply draw something from my real life and suddenly, I have a story!

Title: Finding Me
Author: Brooklyn Taylor

Add to Goodreads

Elise Riley is the average girl that has never been treated like she was worthy, always second best even by her own mother.

She becomes a victim of a crime committed by one of her closest friends and is shipped off to Humble, Texas to live with her aunt and uncle on the family farm.

She swears that she will never trust another guy that is until she meets Ford.

Ford Kelly is the star running back at Humble High, always treated like he was number one.

Ford lives a life of eat, sleep, and football. He hates it and is starting to struggle from the effects of playing hard his entire life.

The one girl Ford likes seems to reject him at every turn. But when he starts to break down her walls, there are more things standing in their way than he suspected.

Is love worth the risk? Even if it means breaking a promise you made to your best friend? And if it is worth the risk, will you let it happen? Can you get past all the bad things that have happened in your life?

I loved observing the different friends, and couples seeing how things seemed to click so perfectly for them. So many of them seemed to be in flawless sync and looked as if they were made for each other.
The first person to catch my eye and hold it was the one person I had secretly hoped would be there. But he was the very same person I had hoped wouldn’t. Ford. He was wearing a pair of red swim trunks, which accented his tan more than I had seen. He was throwing a Frisbee with another guy whose name I didn’t remember.
He stopped when he saw me climbing in the back of a truck that belonged to Shay’s dad and smiled as he walked over to us. The guy that he was playing with followed suit and kept his eyes on Shay without moving.
“Elise.”
“Ford.” I smiled.
“Have you met …”
Shay spoke up. “Luke.”
Luke smiled.
“Nice to meet you, Luke.” I smiled. He smiled back.
“Ya’ll ready for a swim yet?”
Shay answers for both of us. “Yes.”
“Ahhh … Thank you but no, not yet.”
“Your loss.” She hopped off the tailgate and swayed her hips to the water where Luke gladly followed her. He didn’t seem to take his eyes off her for a minute.
Ford sat beside me, and I was trying every trick in the book not to look over at him.
“This is Deer Creek. I’ve been coming here for as long as I can remember.”
“It looks amazing.”
“Like you,” Ford says sweetly.
“Thank you.”
I looked up at him and saw the sweetness of Ford Kelly.
We heard screams and yells and laughs as Shay and Luke were playing in the water. He seemed to be acting as if he was going to throw her in. Others were making their way to the creek and laughing.
“You ready to get in?” Ford jumped off the tailgate and extended his hand.
I resisted but every part of me wanted to grab the olive branch he was trying to extend.Jesus Christ, Elise, not everyone is like Bryan. And Ford most certainly wasn’t anyway.
I jumped off the tailgate resisting his hand, and he put it down seemingly frustrated. Who could blame him? I was a looney toon, and I knew it. I removed my tank top as fast as I could getting ready for my next move.
“Last one to the water has to clean the pig pen tomorrow.” And I took off running. I ran faster than I have ever run even through the giggles and the urge to turn around and see how far Ford was behind me.
I made it to the water before Ford and turned around with my hands on my hips to announce and rub it in his face I had won. I had actually beaten a running back. From what Shay had said, he ranked third in the state of Texas. I was pretty impressed with myself.
He walked up to me in the water and stood right in front of me. He wasn’t the least bit out of breath and smiled watching me enjoy my victory.
“I WON! I beat the fastest running back at Humble.” I did a little victory dance.
He moved a little closer to me.
“This is the thing, Elise … with me … I would always let you win. You would always be first.”
My heart started to ache. That was the sweetest thing a person had ever said to me.
“Really?”
“Most definitely.” He focused his eyes on me almost leaving me lost in a trance. I felt like I couldn’t turn away. And what was worse, I didn’t want to.
“Wait! You let me win?” I asked. I put on a mad face so he would think I was serious.
“No … well, yes … well …”
“Well, what?” I asked.
Luke swam up behind me. “Of course, he did. So he could see your ass as you ran like I did with Shay.” Shay splashed Luke and jumped on him to push him under.
“Is that true?” I asked.
“Absolutely not,” Ford said while he was nodding his head.
I currently reside outside of Austin, Texas. I’m a mother of 2 amazing kiddos and married to my gorgeous soulmate for almost 20 years. I have a full time job in the medical field but would rather be spending my time writing! I love to spend my free time reading, being outside and playing with my family and 4 fur babies. I started to write at the instinct of “hey maybe I can do that!” and haven’t stopped since. I have enjoyed every step of the journey. I am blessed to have very supportive friends and family that make my life worth living!

Chase
Ten years ago, I turned a hard decision into a simple one. I allowed others to decide my future . . . then I lost the best thing that ever happened to me. I let go of the girl I loved in exchange for a life I was told I wanted.
Then one day I woke up with no recollection of my reality and instead I believed my life had turned out how I had once dared to imagine. Now everyone is waiting for me to remember the day I ruined my future as I struggle to recall a life without the person I so carelessly tossed away.
Somehow, I was gifted a second chance with the woman I love, and I’m going to fight like hell to keep her.
Jordan
Your brain has a funny way of convincing you what is real and what is not; even if your heart never lets you forget the truth. After Chase Adams broke my heart, my life moved forward, even though the light I once felt had extinguished. Then I received an unexpected phone call that changed everything.
Every day we make choices, but most of the time they don’t affect the rest of our lives. I wanted to love again. I wanted to trust the gift I was given, but every choice has consequences. Now I have to decide to let go of the past for the sake of my future. . . or risk living with regret.
Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18

Excerpt 1

Tears streak down my face while I wonder what I should say. I don’t want to think of Chase suffering but I’m not sure I’m strong enough to handle this. Because, hell …I’m being asked to save the man responsible for destroying me. And if I’m not careful, history is liable to repeat itself. Only this time, I know in advance that I’m about to sacrifice more than my heart can handle.
Instead of answering Donna, I turn to Dr. Wallace. “What exactly do you want from me?” I quickly brush away my tears, hoping no one else witnessed them.
“Only what you’re willing to give, Jordan. I’m not up to date on the history you share with Chase, but it’s evident that being here is hard on you.” His voice is filled with compassion.
I was hoping he’d act like an ass like Steve so I’d feel justified in my choice to leave. Instead, he acts concerned about me.
Can I really agree to do this? Can I put my life on hold to help Chase? But the bigger question is: Can I go back to New York with this on my conscience? Go back to living my life wondering and worrying about him even if he isn’t my burden to carry? And that’s the problem …I don’t think I can. Like it or not, I’m involved and from what Dr. Wallace has said, my involvement plays a large role in his recovery.
I square my shoulders and clear my throat. “One week. I’ll stay and help Chase work out his memory, but I have a life back in New York and I’m not willing to put my life on hold indefinitely. One week, that’s all I’m willing to give.”
Donna sags with relief as Dr. Wallace speaks up. “Chase might not be able to appreciate what you’re doing for him at the moment, Ms. Taylor, but when he does, I know he’ll be very grateful.”
God, I hope he’s right. I can’t help wondering how grateful he’s going to be when I get on an airplane next week and disappear from his life.

Excerpt Two

Jordan, I’m not stupid. I know I’m missing something, but whatever it is, it’s not important. You and me, together we can weather any storm that comes our way, but only if we stick together.” Her lips part but she doesn’t say anything. She looks as lost as I feel.
“I know it’s a shitty thing to do …to ask forgiveness when I’m not sure what I’m asking you to forgive me for, but I love you. I always have. I always will. But I need to be honest with you about something . . .” My heart feels like it’s about to pound out of my chest.
“I’m scared.” My voice shakes. “I’m scared when I figure out what I’m asking you to forgive that I won’t be able to forgive myself and I can only hope whatever I’ve burdened you with is something I can atone for.” I’m looking down at my lap in fear of what I might see on her face.
Jordan reaches out and places her hand in mine. “We’ll work through this. Together.” Her voice is as soft and soothing as her touch. I feel like I’m finally able to breathe for the first time since I woke up in this place because she said exactly what I needed to hear.
Together…that word gives me a strange peace. A peace that, for whatever reason, I think has been missing from my life for a long time.

Synopsis

What’s harder than resisting one Dane man? Resisting two.

I don’t date bikers. It’s my one cardinal rule. No rough, rugged, tattooed egotistical maniacs on two wheels. Even if they are gorgeous, brilliant, and sport the prefix Doctor. Bottom line, bikers are nothing but trouble.

T.R.O.U.B.L.E

Dr. Devlin Dane has had his sights set on my panties for months. But I’ve done a stellar job of fending him off. As Mercy Medical’s most eligible bachelor, he has no problem in the panty dropping department. He’s tall, dark, and inked all over. I get the appeal, I’m not dead. I’m not stupid either. He’s a walking heartbreak waiting to happen.

But when Reese Dane comes crashing into my life – literally- the game suddenly changes.

Reese, the dark, brooding, motorcycle racing champion, knows exactly how to apply the right pressure on and off the track.

The two have an unstoppable pull like centrifugal force, and both bad boy bikers are determined to take me on a high-powered ride I’ll never forget…

Excerpt

“I’m not overreacting! You can’t just pass me around to all your biker buddies and think it’s okay! I’m not a fucking wrist watch you can just throw into the pot!”

Kayla, do you honestly think I would’ve put you up if I knew I couldn’t win? That I would let anyone else touch what belongs to us?” Reese crowds me into a corner.

“Us?” I squeak. Wait, what?

“Yes. Us. Mine and Dev’s.” He enunciates the words. “You. Are. Ours.”

There’s that word again. Ours.

“I don’t understand.”

“Baby, I think you do. I think you’ve always known where we would end up.” Reese cages me in with his arms.

Dev materializes over Reese’s shoulder, and I internally hyperventilate. I don’t know who to look at first as my gaze compulsively darts between the two of them. Two, beautiful, roughneck men, who both look like they want to have me for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

“How . . . how would this even work?” I crazily entertain the idea.

Both their faces split with a fiendish smile. I must have asked the million-dollar question.

Reese leans in closely, stopping my heart. “Let us show you,” he murmurs so seductively my knees nearly buckle. I throw a questioning eye at Dev and he nods confidently.

“You both want this?” I ask with a small voice.

“It isn’t about what we want anymore. It’s all about you now,” Dev voices.

Holy. Fuck.

“Say yes, Kayla.” Dev’s tone is soft and velvety. Irresistible. “Say yes to us.”

I press my back against the wall praying for composure, but the longer they trap me, the more the pressure builds, the more my want fights to the surface, and my resolve falls away into oblivion. I find myself nodding because my ability to speak has become paralyzed.

“Good girl,” Reese breathes before he throws me over his shoulder like a caveman.

“Hey!” I grab onto his shirt.

He swats me on the butt as he makes his way to the stairs. “Ouch!” I flail.

“That’s for bouncing out on me. Never do it again. Got it?” He hits me once more for good measure.

“Fuck you.” I flinch.

“In due time, baby.”

I lift my head as Reese climbs the stairs with Dev hot on his heels.

Reality suddenly strikes. Is this really happening?

“Relax.” Dev traps my chin gently. “We’re going to take care of you. And make you feel so good.” He pushes some dangling hair away from my face so I can see him. He’s incredibly calm despite the carnal look in his eyes.

Once in my small room, Reese drops me on the bed. They each flank one side, making me feel like a trapped animal.

I kneel in the middle of the mattress at a loss at what to do next.

“Strip, baby,” Reese instructs as he unzips his leather jacket and pulls the gun from the back of his pants, placing it on my nightstand.

I stay frozen in place.

I know I’m supposed to move, but what’s clearly about to happen hasn’t sunk in yet.

“Need some assistance?” Dev crawls up behind me and kisses my neck. A switch flips. My eyes immediately roll backward. Yes, please, touch me. Both of you, please touch me.

The follow up book to Not The One: Hayden’s Story
Not The One – Released Dec 7, 2015
On sale for $0.99 for a limited time!
As the only survivor of a rare birth, Reyna Miracle has never felt like she belonged. When a horrible tragedy strikes during her graduate courses at Oxford, she spirals down a dark and sexy path with Hayden, her deceased best friend’s brother. But when Liam Darby, a mistake from her past reappears, Reyna’s world begins to crumble as the two men fight for a love that she can’t even accept for herself.
“You’re so confusing, Hayden,” I reply, my voice embarrassingly breathy as he stands only a foot away from me now. His eyes are glossy with obvious lust. Pure, undiluted lust. “You kiss me and run away, then kiss me and tell me I can do better. I don’t know what you’re even saying.”
He licks his lips thoughtfully. “I’m saying that tonight when you showed up looking the way you did…” he pauses as his eyes drift down my body. His heated expression makes me feel every drop of hot blood coursing through my veins. “I wanted to have you right then and there. But not in a club full of people. I wanted you in the privacy of your bedroom…where the curves of your hips, the rise of your chest, the moisture on your lips…are for me and me alone.”
I exhale at his guttural tone and am embarrassed when a throaty noise comes out of my mouth. He takes this noise as permission and moves in closer, his posture hunched as he looks down at me. “So, I’m sorry for some things, Vi. But I’m not sorry for interfering. To ask me to just walk away when a prat like Ethan Simmons worms himself within inches of your mouth…your fucking mouth that I’ve touched with my lips…lips that I have claimed as mine in a thousand different fantasies…No, Vi. No. I’m not going to be sorry for that.”
 “But you said—”
“Stuff what I said. I can’t stay away from you.” The words rush out of his mouth as he harshly grabs me by the waist. His bruising, firm grip shoves up the stretchy fabric of my top as his lips find mine in a desperate, needy kiss. He greedily yanks the cups of my bra down and caresses my nipples in such a way that I rip my mouth away from his and let out a strangled cry. I’m not all together certain I’ve ever heard that sound come from my mouth before.
He releases my nipples to pull my top off over my head, revealing my lacey red bra tucked firmly beneath my breasts, pushing them up for his lustful perusal. He drops an open mouthed kiss on each of them before standing back up straight. Groaning in frustration, he pauses his assault and looks into my eyes. A warmth blossoms in his gaze as he wraps his arms around me, holding me close. “I’m terrified, Vi…of so much. But I don’t have the strength to walk away from you again. You make me weak.”
I exhale with relief and anxiety over his comment, feeling my emotions at odds. I’ve been wanting Hayden Clarke to let me in since he first kissed me outside my building. But what does it mean when he says he feels weak around me? Am I capable of hurting him? I lick my lips and guide him down to my level. “Maybe with time I can make you strong.”

Blurb

It started out like any other morning on the train.

Until I became mesmerized by the guy sitting across the aisle.

He was barking at someone on his phone like he ruled the world.

Who did the stuck-up suit think he was…God?

Actually, he looked like a God. That was about it.

When his stop came, he got up suddenly and left.  So suddenly, he dropped his phone on the way out.

I might have picked it up.

I might have gone through all of his photos and called some of the numbers.

I might have held onto the mystery man’s phone for days—until I finally conjured up the courage to return it.

When I traipsed my ass across town to his fancy company, he refused to see me.

So, I left the phone on the empty desk outside the arrogant jerk’s office.

I might have also left behind a dirty picture on it first though.

I didn’t expect him to text back.

I didn’t expect our exchanges to be hot as hell.

I didn’t expect to fall for him—all before we even met.

The two of us couldn’t have been any more different.

Yet, you know what they say about opposites.

When we finally came face to face, we found out opposites sometimes do more than attract—we consumed each other.

Nothing could have prepared me for the ride he took me on. And I certainly wasn’t prepared for where I’d wind up when the ride was over.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Excerpt

Outside of the restaurant, Graham’s black car was already curbside.  He must have had it waiting and called the driver when I went to the restroom.

“If you’re not going to come home with me, I insist on at least giving you a ride home to your place.”

“The subway is right around the corner.  I’m good.”

He shot me an annoyed glance.  “Give a little, Soraya.  It’s a ride home, not a ride on my cock.  And I think you know by now that I’m not a serial killer.”

“You’re so crass.”

He put his hand on the small of my back and steered me to the waiting open car door.  I didn’t put up a fight.  Graham was right, I was being stubborn while he had pretty much agreed to anything I demanded.  Something told me it was a rare occasion when the man was this flexible.

When we arrived at my apartment, Graham walked me to the door.

“When will I see you again?”

“Well, tomorrow is Saturday, so I suppose maybe Monday on the train.”

“Have dinner with me again tomorrow?”

“I have plans.”

His jaw flexed.  “With whom?”

We embarked into a lengthy stare off.  His gaze was hard.  When neither of us gave for a few minutes, he grumbled Christ under his breath, and before I realized what was happening, my back was against the door, and his mouth was on mine.

He kissed me as if he wanted to eat me alive.  Before releasing my mouth, he took my lower lip between his teeth and tugged.  Hard.  With his lips vibrating up against mine, he spoke.  “Don’t push me to my limit, Soraya.”

“Why?  What will happen?”

“I’ll push back.  And I’m trying not to do that with you.”

He was being honest, and I realized I should appreciate that.  “To my sister’s house.  It’s my niece’s birthday party.  That’s where I’m going tomorrow night.

He nodded.  “Thank you.”

It took every bit of my willpower to go inside and shut the door behind me.  I leaned my back against the door, unable to remember the last time I was so hot and bothered.  Maybe not ever.  His mouth was sinful; the thought of what he could do with that wicked tongue other places on my body kept me in a state of arousal that bordered on frenzied.  But it was more than that.  The way he was so dominating and controlling, yet exercised restraint to respect my wishes, was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen.  The man stimulated something that had been sleeping inside of me.  I needed a glass of wine and an orgasm.  Not necessarily in that order.  If I was going be firm on my stance that we get to know each other and not have sex, then taking things into my own hands was absolutely essential.

In my bedroom, I stripped out of my clothes.  I didn’t sleep naked every night, but tonight was definitely a bare evening.  As I slipped into bed, my cell rang.

“Is phone sex on the table?”  Graham’s voice was a needy rasp.  Whatever cooling off my body had done since I left him on the other side of the door was instantly reheated.  His voice could definitely speed things up for me.  But…

“Sex is off the table.  That should probably include all types of sex.  Intercourse, oral, phone.”

He groaned.  “Oral.  God, I want to taste you.  And feel that metal tongue ring on my cock.  You have no idea how difficult it was to control myself tonight every time I caught a glimpse of that metal when you spoke.  It’s like you’re taunting me with every word.  What are you wearing, Soraya?”

That voice.  I needed to record him saying What are you wearing, Soraya?  So I could play it over and over again in a loop when I needed to satisfy my own needs.  “I’m actually not wearing anything.  I just got undressed and slipped into bed.”

“You sleep naked?”

“Sometimes.”

He actually growled.  “Touch yourself.”

“I plan to.  But I think I’m going to need both hands tonight.  So I’m going to hang up first.”

“How long do you plan on driving me crazy, Soraya?”

“Good night, Graham.”  I hung up without waiting for him to respond.  Even though my body physically ached for the man, I wasn’t ready to open that door with him just yet.  Although as I glided my hand down my body alone in my bed, the only thing I could think of was God, I wish it was his hand.

Casey Peeler | Tutus & Cowboy Boots Part Two | Blog Tour

Title: Tutus & Cowboy Boots (Part 2)

Author: Casey Peeler

Release Date: April 8, 2016

Find on Goodreads

After an eventful Christmas break, Cadence Lewis is shaken to the core.  The life she lived in New York no longer makes sense. Faced with so many questions she runs to the only person who has ever listened to her. Now she has to decide how to say goodbye to the past, discover herself, and embrace a future in a life she never wanted.  Will Cadence be able to overcome the path she’s been given or will she take the easy way out?
Mason jars, with lights inside each of them, are hung from a line between the trees. They twinkle in the night sky as the air moves them gracefully, but what I notice most is the enormous gold star hanging in the center with the word “Prom?” written on it.  When I look down there is a blanket spread out on the ground with a basket sitting next to it. When I look back up at Barrick, he’s holding a small box. He opens it and displays a gold ring with a single cut out star in the middle.
“Barrick.  It’s beautiful,” I say.
“Cadence as I look into the night sky, there’s not a star that shines as bright as you.  Can I be your date to Prom?” he questions and I suddenly realize the amazement of this moment.  A boy, who has no desire to go back to high school, is willing to go to Prom with me.
“I wouldn’t want to go with anyone else, Mr. Carpenter,” I say as he takes my hand and slides the small star ring on my right index finger.
“Cadence, each time you look at this ring, know that your wishes can come true as long as you lead the way,” he says.
“Right now, I only want to be in this moment with you,” I say as he pulls me in and our lips crash together.  I can’t get close enough to him and I can’t express my thoughts so we let our lips tell each other how we’re feeling.  Suddenly, I hear a squeal and jump away from Barrick. I turn and see Jade jumping up and down next to Aaron.
“Oh my gosh y’all, that was the sweetest moment ever!”
Tutus & Cowboy Boots – Released Dec 29, 2015
Cadence Lewis has been dancing since she could walk. Living in New York with her parents she has the chance to go to the best dance school in the country, but when her father does the unthinkable she’s forced to leave her dreams behind and move to a small southern town with her mom. Cadence is having a hard time adjusting to her new life when she meets Jade Carpenter. Jade starts to show Cadence that small-town life isn’t so bad, but when Cadence has a chance to go back to New York she is on the next flight and will do anything to get her old life back.
Casey Peeler grew up in North Carolina and still lives there with her husband and daughter.
Growing up Casey wasn’t an avid reader or writer, but after reading Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston during her senior year of high school, and multiple Nicholas Sparks’ novels, she found a hidden love and appreciation for reading.  That love ignited the passion for writing several years later, and her writing style combines real life scenarios with morals and values teenagers need in their daily lives.
When Casey isn’t writing, you can find her near a body of water listening to country music with a cold beverage and a great book.
